We're keeping a photo diary of our third Pinot Gris block being developed.  The trellis and the irrigation was installed in the winter months of 2022.  Vines were planted in October and since then they've put on a lot of growth.  As the nights cool down they are shutting down for the winter.  

May - Marking outMike and Tony planted our Limeloader vineyard originally. Mike is Tony's son and a builder, so the rows and posts are VERY straight and tidy. Perfect Pinot Gris is starting here....
June - All the posts are inThe strainer posts are larger as they hold the 'strain' of the fruiting wires. We have over 100 rows and around 12000 vines being planted here.
July - Irrigation and fruiting wiresEvery vine gets its own dripper targeted at the roots. We water at night and have undervine drippers to minimise the water being used. Viticulture is one of the most efficient use of water in farming as vines don't need much water.
September - Digging holesDigging 12,000 holes takes some time. Luckily we weren't using a shovel to do it
OctoberIf only it was this easy....
October - plantingTiny twig-like vines are going in the ground. This time in a year, they'll be over 1.5m high
PlantingYes, it is as hard as it looks
Cover guards Cover guards are put on each vine, to stop the rabbits nibbling on them
A well earned beerThree weeks of long tiring days meant a few beers at the end of it
GrowingBy January they are starting to grow above the cover guards
AutumnVines are starting to shut down for the winter
Won't be longWon't be long before its summer and we might even see some fruit from them
